Rohnert Park is one of the first planned communities in the United States. The city was designed with families in mind, with the focus being on children. Each Rohnert Park neighborhood was designed around a city park and elementary school, and the tree-lined streets are connected by bikeways and walkways. The city is also home to Sonoma State University, which offers 9 credential programs and eight undergraduate and graduate certificate programs. Although the original designers focus was children, the needs of seniors were not left out. Rohnert Park staffs a Senior Center that is located adjacent to The Altamont, an active senior living complex. The senior living complex is within an easy walk to city transportation and shopping. Rohnert Park also offers plenty of employment opportunities. The city is located in the center of the 16-mile business corridor known as the Telecom Valley, one of the fastest growing telecommunications areas in the world.

Rohnert Park will soon be home to the most sough-after music and arts venues in the world. The heart of the 105,435-square-foot Green Music Center, a part of the Sonoma State University campus, is its world-class concert hall, designed to perfectly showcase acoustic music and the human voice. Other buildings being constructed are the Schroeder Recital Hall, the hospitality center and Music Education Hall.

Rohnert Park offers plenty of things to see and do for every member of the family. The city itself offers 21 neighborhood parks, 26 tennis courts, five swimming pools, three dog parks, 14 softball and baseball fields, nine soccer fields, and numerous picnic and barbeque areas. The Rohnert Park Community Center is the home of numerous self-improvement classes offered by the department including the largest pottery studio in the area. There are also many other attractions within an hour's drive of Rohnert Park. Sonoma County is home to over 250 award-winning wineries, numerous county and state parks for endless recreational opportunities, including fly fishing, camping, swimming, picnicking, trails for horseback riding, hiking or bicycling, quiet coves, sandy beaches, inspiring views, old-growth redwood groves and sports fields.
